Abstract: The document is from Thomas Saaty's unpublished book "New Mathematics and Measurement for the Physical, Social and Life Sciences" finished in 2004. This is chapter 8: Should the United States Legalize the Sale of Marijuana? "This chapter is written by Jonah Hatfield and Liza Amery who are graduate students in my decision-making class. This model examines the implications of the sale, regulation and usage of marijuana for recreational purposes in order to determine whether the US should legalize marijuana. Using team members’ knowledge and research, the model was developed by using the Analytic Network Process. The model takes into consideration the benefits, opportunities, costs, and risks associated with the legalization of marijuana. The two alternatives that we considered were no legalization of recreational usage of marijuana and legalization of recreational usage of marijuana. The results of our analysis show that marijuana should be legalized."
